A political intelligence and risk strategy firm
Preparedness, not prediction.
ROIYou move with preparedness.
Sociopolitical systems under strain — marked by inequality, governance failure, collapsing infrastructure, community disillusionment and resistance — are structured to produce disruption. The question is not whether disruption will arrive, but when, and whether your organisation is prepared.
A prosperous organisation operating inside a collapsing or unstable sociopolitical system cannot hope to be sustainable.
Our purpose is shifting our clients from reaction to preparedness by enabling them to understand what the political landscape is structured to produce, so they can decide, act and engage with confidence under conditions of uncertainty.
The goal is systemic resilience — not just risk avoidance.
Download the Company Profile →The conventional political risk industry is event-driven. Critical ThinkAR® is not.
Critical ThinkAR® starts with structure — the founding conditions, the power configuration, the legitimacy architecture, the accountability mechanisms, the weight of socioeconomic reality. The question is not "what is happening?" It is "what is this political system structured to produce?" That answer does not change with every news cycle. It is durable.
Five things distinguish Critical ThinkAR®:
Critical ThinkAR® reads political systems, not incidents. The analysis does not age the way a situation report ages. It produces a picture that holds — a structural reference that remains a valid anchor for reading whatever happens next.
Critical ThinkAR® uses a theoretically grounded analytical instrument with a specific architecture. Most political risk products are descriptive. Ours is interpretive. It produces a reading, not a rating.
Because it understands that institutions are not abstract structures — they are made of people. The character of an institution is determined by the people within it: running it, working within it, shaping it.
Having read the political landscape, Critical ThinkAR® does not hand over a report and leave. It walks the client through what the analysis has revealed and what it means for how they must position and act. The client moves from understanding to readiness.
Because the client is not a passive observer of the landscape. They are an actor within it — affecting and shaping it through how they engage, position, and communicate. Critical ThinkAR® builds the capacity to do that with intention.
Critical ThinkAR® stays in the room. Most intelligence firms deliver and walk away. Critical ThinkAR® builds the capacity of the client to navigate what the analysis has revealed.
A structural analysis of how power is held, contested, and reproduced in a political landscape — produced through The Refraction Framework™, our proprietary analytical instrument for uncovering the anatomy of power in political systems.
Explore →A quarterly analytical brief that reads key political developments, policy shifts, and actors against a fixed structural reference — so you know not just what is happening, but also what is driving it. Powered by The Refraction Framework™ Operational Filters.
Explore →Each division is an expression of The Critical ThinkAR® Method™ — a four-layer analytical stack built on media intelligence, structured research, stakeholder intelligence, and political risk analysis. The method underpins every division and the proprietary frameworks applied within it.
Critical ThinkAR® is built on two decades of political intelligence and advisory experience. And that experience has been codified into The Critical ThinkAR® Method™, a four-layer stack (see service divisions). As an innovative firm, we have been intentional in assessing the path and value of AI integration within the political intelligence and strategic advisory context. As such, our practice pairs human intelligence, historical pattern recognition, and decades of top practitioner experience with cutting-edge AI assistant technology, applied to The Critical ThinkAR® Method™, to deliver scalable, rapid and precise sociopolitical insights.
And we have struck the balance: AI provides the tools. The judgement remains fully human.

Column
The Critical Take is a political analysis column written by Critical ThinkAR® founder and principal, Nompumelelo Sibalukhulu Runji. It applies the analytical method to live developments — not commentary, not reaction, but structured reading of what is actually happening and why. The column originally ran in the Sowetan for six years and now continues on Substack and LinkedIn Newsletter.
There is a crisis in our political moment. It is not a crisis of information. It is a crisis of analysis. This book makes the case that most of what circulates as political analysis is commentary. The gap between analysis and commentary has consequences. This book names that gap and closes it.
Critical ThinkAR® does not predict.
It maps what systems are structured to produce —
and builds the capacity to navigate it.
